Abstract : Mango fruits were sampled after various combinations of treatments in a packhouse in the Letsitele District, South Africa. One set of fruits was maintained at ambient temperature and another set was maintained in cold storage to simulate export conditions. The results indicated that some treatments controlled anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]) but soft brown rot (Nattrassia mangiferae) was unaffected. The older and more mature fruits showed greater soft brown rot infection. Indications of reinfection were also observed. It is concluded that soft brown rot is a more serious postharvest disease of mango than anthracnose.
