Abstract : The IPGRI Office in Asia, the Pacific and Oceania, in collaboration with 10 countries (Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam) in the region, is implementing the Asian Development Bank-supported project on 'Conservation and Use of Native Tropical Fruit Tree Species in Asia'. Collecting and locating diversity is one of the planned activities of this project. It is necessary to know where particular material of interest occurs and what is the pattern of diversity in individuals of populations to capture the maximum diversity while collecting germplasm and design proper conservation strategies, particularly for in situ conservation. This paper focuses on locating genetic diversity in tropical fruit tree species (focusing on citrus (Citrus spp.), mango (Mangifera spp.), jackfruit, litchi (Litchi chinensis), rambutan (Nephelium spp.) and mangosteen (Garcinia spp.)) in the 10 countries, using geographical information system, which is a useful tool for managing accession data, locating diversity, and planning collecting missions for tropical fruit genetic resources.
