Abstract : This paper discusses the use of 21 medicinal plants belonging to 20 families and 20 genera by the Palliyar tribals of Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu, India. The species that can cure gastrointestinal diseases include Albizia amara, Aristolochia indica, Aristolochia tagala, Cissampelos pareira, Gyrocarpus americanus, Mangifera indica, Swertia corymbosa, Ziziphus xylopyrus, Dioscorea bulbifera, Terminalia chebula, Cynodon dactylon, Givotia rottleriformis, Actiniopteris radiata, Basella alba, Cassia auriculata, Hemionitis arifolia, waltheria indica, Argyreia speciosa [Argyreia nervosa], Pergularia daemia, Momordica charantia and Oldenlandia corymbosa.
