Abstract : Twenty mango cultivars planted in Sabour, Bihar, India during 1980 were evaluated for fruit quality in 1997/99. Fajri produced the heaviest fruits (450.98 g on average). Mallika recorded the greatest average pulp (68.0%) and total carotenoid (4.95 mg/100 g) contents. The highest contents of total soluble solids, total sugar, reducing sugar and ascorbic acid were recorded for Dashehari. In general, cultivars from the Southern and Western zones were inferior to cultivars from the Northern and Eastern zones. The fruits of Mallika were available for marketing from the last week of June to the first week of July when the fruits of the leading cultivars of this region (Bombai, Langra, Zardalu and Himsagar) were almost scarce. Based on the overall performance, Mallika had the greatest potential among the cultivars for cultivation under Bihar conditions.
