Flowering and production of mango cv. Tommy Atkins using ethrel, potassium nitrate and calcium nitrate.

Abstract : The effect of ethrel [ethephon], potassium nitrate and calcium nitrate in the flowering and production of mango cv. Tommy Atkins from January to December 2001 was determined in the commercial orchard of the Federal Agriculture School of São Gonçalo, Souza, Paraíba, Brazil. The treatments comprised (T1) control (water); (T2) 4 applications of 2.25 ml ethrel/litre; (T3) 2 applications of 0.25 ml ethrel/litre + 2 applications of 30 g calcium nitrate/litre; and (T4) 2 applications of 0.25 ml ethrel/litre + 2 applications of 30 g potassium nitrate/litre. Data were collected for percentage of flowered branches, number of fruits per plant, average weight of fruits, number of fruits per plant, and productivity of fruits. Ethrel alone did not promote efficient flower induction and high productivity of fruits compared to combinations with calcium nitrate or potassium nitrate.
