Abstract : Field experiments were conducted in Anand, GUjarat, India during 1999-2000 to study the efficacy of the new insecticide, thiamethoxam (25, 37.5, 50 and 250 ga.i./ha), in comparison with conventional insecticides (0.04% monocrotophos, 0.07% endosulfan and 0.2% carbaryl) against the hopper, A. atkinsoni infesting mango c.v Langado. Two sprays of thiamethoxam at 50 g a.i./ha or carbaryl 0.2% during the flowering of the crop at an interval of 15 days effectively prevented the population build up of hopper.
