Abstract : This paper presents a brief history of heat-based disinfestation of fruits (particularly pawpaws), describes the commercial chambers, wide body chambers (currently used for mangoes and Capsicum) and experimental chambers combined with commercial chambers and their corresponding uses and advantages, and discusses the importance of the computer software used to provide bio-secure printed reports of a wide range of crops and to create a series of protocol files in which the airflow, temperature set point curves, ramp time, ending temperature, time:temperature relationship, relative humidity and fruit containers are investigated. Future use of these technologies on other crops is also mentioned.
