Abstract : An adivasi (local term for tribals) development programme, focusing on agri-horti-silvicultural production and commodity processing, has been under implementation since 1995 in Dharampur and Kaprada talukas of Valsad district, Gujarat, India. This paper outlines the programme's evolution, its strategies/innovations, its progress and impact, the organization of tribal farmers for the procurement, processing, and marketing of commodities (mango and cashew), and the key lessons learnt in commodity processing by the tribal farmers/peoples' organizations.
