Abstract : The effect of benomyl (1 g/litre) and benzalconic chloride (2 g/litre), alone or in combination with Clean Wax coat (an emulsion containing 18.5-20.5% of a mixture of carnauba wax and acrylic resin) on the postharvest ripening of mango cv. Haden stored under room conditions (26.5+-3.5°C and 71.5±15.5% RH). Wax treatment improved fruit visual aspect, firmness and brightness. This treatment also delayed fruit ripening, which was confirmed by titratable acidity and ratio. Benomyl, independently of wax treatment, and benzalconic chloride, combined with wax, controlled satisfactorily the incidence of anthracnose (caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides [Glomerella cingulata]) in fruits kept under ambient conditions. Benzalconic chloride, in combination with wax, is a viable alternative to benomyl as postharvest treatment to control anthracnose.
