Abstract : In a study conducted in Madhya Pradesh, India, results showed that multistorey cropping of mango (Mangifera indica) with bay (Cinnamomum tamala), black pepper (Piper nigrum), pineapple (Ananas comosus) and ginger (Zingiber officinale) did not affect the yield of mango. Four combinations of these intercrops gave net returns of 91-143% over the monocrop. Ginger, bay leaf and pepper were effective in sustaining income especially during an 'off' year when mango is not bearing. By intercropping, farmers can generate income over a period of seven months.
