Abstract : A section on the work of the College of Veterinary Medicine of this annual report of the G.B. Pant University in Uttar Pradesh, India includes a summary of research by S.N.S. Gaur on theileriasis in exotic and cross-bred cattle in Tarai region (pp. 144-145). The incidence of Theileria annulata was 7.57% in buffaloes and 3.69% in cattle, and Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum Koch was an important vector. At 28 deg C and 80-85% RH, the tick completed its life-cycle in 70-93 days. T. annulata could be transmitted by nymphs and adults of the tick, but nymphs were more efficient. Transovarian transmission did not occur.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:This report on agricultural research in Uttar Pradesh, India, includes a section on entomology (pp. 71-87) in which the results are summarised of over 80 projects on the biology, incidence, injuriousness and control of insect (and bird) pests of stored grains, maize, oilseeds, sugar-cane, sugar-beet, vegetables, mango and rice.
