Scale insects (Homoptera: Coccoidea) on nursery plants in the region of Maracay, Aragua State, Venezuela.

Abstract : Two lists are presented, arranged under the insects and under the food-plants, respectively, of scale insects found on fruit and ornamental plants in nurseries in the region of Maracay, Venezuela in May-July 1968. In the 6 nurseries examined, 23 species of scale insects were found on 35 species of plants. Selenaspidus articulatus (Morg.) was found on 24 different species, Pseudaonidia trilobitiformis (Green) on 11 and Ischnaspis longirostris (Sign.) on 6. The plants attacked by the widest range of scale insects were mango, persimmon, sapota, citrus and avocado. Brief recommendations on control are given.
