Abstract : The yield performance, chemical parameters, and disease and pest resistance of 2 new mango cultivars showing resistance to wilt (Ceratocystis fimbriata) were compared with those of 4 Floridian cultivars (Tommy Atkins, Van Dyke, Palmer and IAC Haden 2H) in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Palmer was the most productive cultivar, with good adaptation to soil and climatic conditions. None of the cultivars showed resistance to all diseases tested, and Haden 2H was the most susceptible. Espada Vermhelha showed some resistance to fruit flies. Votupa showed the highest percentage of pulp, which was similar to those of Van Dyke, Tommy Atkins and Palmer. The nutritive value of the fruits was measured by evaluating the following parameters: pH, soluble solids, total acidity, lipids, total protein, residual fixed minerals, pectins, ascorbic acid, total carotene, total alimentary fibres, total carbohydrates and calories, and the contents of Ca, Cu, Fe, P, Mg, Mn, K and Zn. Espada Vermhelha was superior to the others in terms of mineral composition, total carotenoids and lipids, which provide intense flavour and colour to fruits. Votupa, Palmer and Van Dyke showed higher acidity and caloric fruits, while Espada Vermhella, Tommy Atkins and Haden 2H had low caloric fruits with lower acidity compared to the others.
