Abstract : Evaluation of eight mango cultivars (Amrapali, Belkhas, Gulabkhas, Himsagar, Kanchamitha, Mallika, Swarnarekha and Vastara-Do-Phola) with regard to plant growth, yield and physicochemical characteristics of fruits was made in the laterite soil of West Bengal, India. Cultivar Belkhas having a dwarf nature, was the highest yielder (23.6 kg/tree) at the plant age of seven years old, with low sugar/acid ratio and suitable for pickles, chutneys and amchoor. Swarnarekha was the second highest yielder with a good skin colour and considered for export. Amrapali, Mallika, Gulabkhas and Kanchamitha were the regular bearer with good fruit quality and can be considered for home-stead or commercial orcharding.
