Abstract : Life history notes and host plant records of D. darius darius from Venezuela are presented. Its biological development is described, as well as the larvae and pupae. This butterfly has been reported as a minor pest of pineapple crops (Ananas comosus). Host records include also different Bromeliads in the genera Aechmea, Billbergia, Bromelia, Ortgiesia [Aechmea] and Tillandsia. Though it has been reported that the adults of this butterfly do not visit rotting fruit or other sources of nutrition, they were observed occasionally feeding on rotten mangoes at dusk in at least 2 Venezuelan localities.
