Abstract : This paper examines the harvest and postharvest practices for mangoes in Gujarat, India. It identifies critical shortcomings of harvesting, sorting/grading, ripening, storage, packaging, and transport practices, as well as the absence of pre-cooling. The different marketing channels for mangoes are also identified, and the APMC fruit market in Naroda is described. Finally, possible strategies to control the identified postharvest problems are discussed.
