Abstract : A study was conducted in Sistan Balouchestan, Iran during 1997 and 1998 to investigate the best time and method for mango grafting, using 8-month-old seedlings from local trees. Grafting was conducted at 6 fortnightly intervals between 4 April and 19 June, by side grafting, softwood grafting and shield budding. The highest percentage of grafting success (67.2%) was obtained with grafting on 4 April. Side and softwood graftings produced higher success rates (65.8 and 63.7%, respectively) than shield budding (47.5%), after 90 days. After 180 days, the percentage of grown scions and scion lengths of those grafted on 4 April were 55% and 57.9 cm, respectively, and these values increased to 65.6% and 60.6 cm after this period.
