Abstract : Plant growth regulators have been used as a practice to alter the phenologic cycle of mango to forecast the harvesting date. An experiment was conducted in Itaberaba, Bahia, Brazil, to study the effects of paclobutrazol (foliar application at 500 and 1000 ppm; soil application at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5. and 2.0 g/m). Soil application of paclobutrazol promoted flowering in mango trees in any season of the year, under tropical semi-arid conditions, but its efficiency was related to the maximum and minimum air temperatures at the time of bud break. Paclobutrazol was inefficient as a growth regulator when applied as foliar spray.
