Abstract : A field demonstration was carried out during 2000/01, 2001/02 and 2002/03, on a clay loam soil, in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, India to select suitable cultivars of turmeric as component crop under mango orchards. Uniform mother rhizomes of 5 turmeric cultivars (Rashme, Rangf, Suroma, Rooma and Sonali) were planted in the third week of June in all years at 60×20 cm under shade of 35- to 40-year-old mango trees. Recommended practices for turmeric cultivation were adopted. The crop was harvested in the month of April in all years. Ranga produced the highest rhizome yield of 143.2 q/ha, whereas Sonali gave the lowest yield of 122.5 q/ha. Ranga, followed by Rashme, is recommended for shade cultivation in mango orchards of Madhya Pradesh.
