Abstract : Stones of mango cv. Dusehri were treated with gamma irradiation (cobalt-60) at 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.00, 12.50 or 15.00 Kr. The germination percentage was highest (87.5) with 2.5 Kr and lowest (21.7) with 15.0 Kr. The inhibitory effects of radiation on the average height of seedlings were observed. Primary leaves appeared serrated in seedlings that emerged from treated seeds, which turned normal in the subsequent growth of flushes. A new characteristic of lateral branching instead of a single stem was observed in seedlings derived from treated seeds. The induction of the trait may be used to alter the structure/framework/pattern of the tree canopy.
