Abstract : The effects of Cycocel (2500, 5000 or 7500 ppm), Ethrel [ethephon] (200 or 300 ppm) and potassium nitrate (0.5, 1.0 or 1.5%) on the flowering and fruit yield of mango (cv. Pairy) were studied in Akola, Maharashtra, India, during 1999-2001. Trees sprayed with the various chemicals exhibited enhanced flowering and fruit yield over the control. Flowering was earliest (approximately 27-30 days earlier than the control) in trees sprayed with 1.5% potassium nitrate. This treatment also resulted in the greatest number of panicles per tree (688.33), panicle length (45.33 cm), fruit set (2.08%) and total fruit yield (917.32 fruits, 261.88 kg).
