Ethnomedicinal plants used against jaundice by the tribals of Akole taluka (M.S.).

Abstract : Sixteen plants (Aegle marmelos, Argemone mexicana, Boerhavia repens, Emblica officinalis [Phyllanthus emblica], Ficus religiosa, Hygrophila schulli, Mangifera indica, Phyllanthus fraternus, Ricinus communis, Rubia cordifolia, Sesbania grandiflora, Sphaeranthus indicus, Tinospora cordifolia, Urginea indica, Woodfordia fruticosa and Wrightia tinctoria) used by the tribes in Akole taluka in Maharashtra, India, for the treatment of jaundice, identified during a survey conducted in 2002-03, are presented. Information on plant parts used and other medicinal properties is provided of each species is provided.
