Abstract : A study was conducted in Nelspruit, South Africa, in 2003 and 2004 to evaluate various treatments for the management of mango scale (Aulacaspis tubercularis) on mangoes cv. Sensation. Treatments comprised: Dursban [chlorpyrifos] (750 g/kg) at 128 or 64 g/100 litres water; Dursban at 128 or 64 g/100 litres water with or without 0.5% mineral oil; Wenfinex at 1.4 litres/100 litres water; Lannate [methomyl] (900 g/kg) at 20 or 40 g/100 litres water+mineral oil; and a control. Applications were done in November after crawler movement was observed in the orchard. Results showed that Dursban in all combinations recorded good mango scale control. Lannate was also effective in controlling mango scale compared to the control treatment, but was not as effective as Dursban. No sunburn or any other phytotoxicity was observed.
