Abstract : The mango gall fly, Procontarinia matteianna (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), has in recent years become an increasing problem in mango production areas. P. matteianna forms galls on the leaves. Heavily infested leaves are deformed and drop prematurely. The objective of this study was to gain information on the seasonal occurrence of gall fly and to study its natural enemies. Mainly larvae are found in the leaves during the winter months. During the rest of the year, larvae and pupae are present. The life cycle of gall fly is six months as determined from April. Parasitized gall flies were commonly found. The only known parasitoid in South Africa is Chrysonotomyia pulcherrima (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). Other parasitoids were collected during the study.
