Abstract : The present experiment was carried out to observe the effect of root and shoot development of mango graft grown in different sizes of polybag and without polybag (in soil) in some varieties of mango at the Germplasm centre of Fruit Tree Improvement Project (GPC-FTIP), Department of Horticulture, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from September 2001 to November, 2002. The experiment consisted of four mango varieties (Amrapali, Gopalbhog, Langra and Fazli) and five polybag sizes (15 cm, 23 cm; 20 cm, 28 cm; 23 cm, 30.5 cm; 30.5 cm, 36 cm and in soil). Different varieties and different polybag sizes showed significant variation in respect of all the parameters studied. Langra performed the best in shoot growth and Amrapali in root growth. In Amrapali, balance root and shoot growth were found. After three and six months of placement of grafts, 30.5 cm, 36 cm sized polybag performed the best followed by in soil condition.
