Abstract : In the Sao Francisco Valley, Brazil, Ceratitis capitata and 11 species of Anastrepha are the most common tephritid pests of mango. Mass rearing and release of C. capitata has been used as a control method, with a sterile mutant line, Vienna 8, being produced since 2005. Biological control, using the parasitoid Diachasmimorpha longicaudata, has been used against Anastrepha spp. Several other parasitoid species are also present and the exotic eulophid Tetrastichus giffardianus has been found recently parasitizing larvae of C. capitata on carambolas. During 2006, 10 million individuals of D. longicaudata were reared and released for the control of Anastrepha spp.
