Abstract : Mango fruit contamination by pesticides in São Paulo city, Brazil, was studied, and a multiresidue method for this type of matrix was optimized. The method employed consisted of extraction with acetone and partition with dichlorometane:hexane (1:1). The extract was concentrated and injected in a gas chromatograph with electron capture detector and flame photometric detector. Analysis was made for 23 active substances of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and acaricides. The methodology allowed a quantification limit that varied from 0.01 to 0.30 mg/kg. The only active substance found in the mango fruit was prochloraz. The level of this pesticide in fruits was within the limit allowed by the Brazilian legislation.
