Abstract : Studies on micropropagation in mango (Mangifera indica L.) were carried out to identify the impediments and to develop a repeatable protocol. Efforts on in-vitro culture of current season and mature shoots of Alphonso variety revealed significant effects of season of explant collection on their performance under in-vitro conditions. Less phenolic exudation, medium discoloration and minimum microbial contamination with better explants survival was noted in current season shoot explants collected from march growth on Murashighe and Skoog's medium. The saprophytic fungi like Aspergillus, Pencilium and moulds were commonly observed as deep seated contaminants on shoot explants recorded in the investigations.
