Abstract : A field experiment was conducted at Indian Institute of Horticulture Research, Bangalore during 2001-2002 to study the germination and vegetative growth parameters of polyembryonic rootstocks of mango under nursery conditions. The number of days taken for initiation of germination and to reach 50 per cent of final germination was less in E.C 95862 and Alphonso (22.44 days and 32.34 days respectively) varieties. Germination per cent and rate of germination was maximum in Muvandan (121.38 per cent) and Olour (0.023) varieties. Extent of polyembryony was highest in E.C-95862 (296%) and Starch (295%) varieties respectively. Maximum seedling height (51.9 cm) and leaf area (48.20 cm2) was observed in monoembryonic variety Alphonso. Vellaikolumban recorded more number of leaves (25.5) and Vigour index-I (9640.7 cm) where as Vigour index-II was more in variety Muvandan (1129.3 g). Number of leaves correlated positively with plant height (0.68), leaf area was positively correlated with plant height (0.73) and number of leaves (0.72). Vigour index-I correlated positively with all the growth parameters.
