Abstract : An experiment on trapping of mango pests was conducted in a demonstration mango orchard of the Panzhihua Agricultural Research Institute. A 220V Ps-15 II type lantern was hung in the orchard at a height of 3.5 m (60-80 cm higher than the trees) from 18 July to 28 August. In this period the pests trapped were counted. It was revealed that in the 42 day period, 4056 pests, belonging to 13 species from 12 families including mango midge [Procontarinia matteiana], mango beetle and mango night moth were trapped. Results showed that using the frequent-shaking lantern reduced the mango damage rate by 44.5-58.5% compared with the control.
