Abstract : Adults of Riptortus sp. (Hemiptera: Coreidae) were found infesting the ripening fruits of mango cultivars Amrapali and Mallika during July 1998 and 1999 at Rehmankhera, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. The bug was also collected a mango orchard at Sitapur Road, Lucknow in May 2000 and in orchards planted with different mango varieties (desehri, langra, chausa and others) at Bulandsahar district in July 2005. The bugs were noticed to suck on the fruit sap. Riptortus sp. appears to be a new record on mango fruits as indicated by a review of literature. Information is given on the pest's morphology, behaviour, symptoms of attack and nature of damage.
