Profitability and cost in growing mango orchards.

Abstract : Production cost and returns in growing mango orchard were estimated and compared to that of annual crops. A sample of 20 mango growers was taken purposively from various villages of Multan district, Pakistan. The objective was to obtain cost benefit ratio and net present worth of growing mango orchard. Net present worth of Rs. 155?607.16 per acre was recorded for the sampled respondents, which indicate that mango cultivation fetches higher returns whereas cost benefit ratio is reasonably high and was 2.61 per rupee invested. These results indicate that investing in mango orchard would generate large returns to farmers and for the country in the form of foreign earnings.
