Abstract : A study was conducted during 1997-2000 to determine the effectiveness of paclobutrazol (2.5, 5.0 and 10.0 ml/l per tree) for the induction of regular and early fruiting and improvement in quality of mango cv. Banganapalli grown under the tropical and humid climate of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. Regular, profuse and early bearing was found to be due to paclobutrazol application. The advancement of harvesting recorded after 2 years of study was uniform and stable (40-45 days) in case of paclobutrazol at all the three levels (first week of April: well in advance to monsoon rains). Paclobutrazol at 5 ml/l applied once increased fruiting, fruit set, retention and yield and slightly improved fruit weight and total soluble solids.
