Flowering behaviour of young grafts in the nursery and on old trees in mango.

Abstract : Scions of 1 tree of each of 21 mango cvs were approach grafted onto one-year-old seedling rootstocks in August and separated in December; the young grafted plants were then kept in a shaded nursery until May and thereafter in the open, and records were made of the percentage flowering of the grafted plants and mother trees during a 2-year period. In the first year none of the grafted plants flowered, whereas most of the mother trees flowered. In the following year, however, 19 cvs flowered in the nursery, and the mother trees of the same cvs also flowered. The intensity of flowering of the grafted plants was closely related to that of their mother trees.
