Abstract : A study was conducted in Orissa, India during 2000-01 and 2001-02 in a 6-year-old mango (cv. Banganapalli) orchard to evaluate the suitability of the following crops as kharif intercrops of mango: ginger cv. Supraha, French bean cv. Contender, cowpea cv. Pusa Barsati, tomato cv. BT-10 and rice cv. Pathara. Sole mango cropping was also conducted for comparison. The maximum average fruit number was obtained from mango + French bean (80 fruits/plant) and mango + cowpea (75 fruits/plant), and the minimum was obtained from solo mango (47 fruits/plant). Mango + ginger produced the maximum returns (Rs. 63?940/ha), followed by mango + cowpea (Rs. 30?210/ha). Sole cropping produced only Rs. 8270/ha.
