Endogenous gibberellins of mango shoot-tips and their significance in flowering.

Abstract : Eight gibberellin-like substances were isolated from mango shoot tips. Factors X2, X3, X4, X5(2), X6(1), X7 and X8 were tentatively identified as gibberellins A1, A7, A9, A4, A3, A5 and A6, respectively, on the basis of column, paper and thin-layer chromatography. Factor X1 could not be identified. The endogenous level of gibberellins X1, X2, X3, X4, X5 and X6 was higher in the off year shoot-tips than in the on year shoot-tips. This suggests that failure to flower in an off year may be accompanied by a higher level of gibberellins in the shoot-tips.
