Abstract : A study was conducted during 2002-03 on mango under high density planting system (5×5 m) in a commercial orchard in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Twenty-five trees (4 years old) of mango cultivars Baneshan, Mallika, Totapuri, Chinna Rasam and Himayuddin were selected and the shoots were pruned during the first week of August 2000 uniformly by decapitation of shoots above the nodal position of previous season's growth. Panicle length, percentage of hermaphrodite flowers, number of fruits carried to maturity per panicle, fruit weight and yield per tree (23.0 and 18.4 kg, respectively) were the highest in Baneshan and Mallika. Totapuri, Chinna Rasam and Himayuddin had poor responses to pruning.
