Abstract : The incidence of spongy tissue in mango cv. Mallika was noticed for the first time under north Indian conditions. Five percent of fruits were affected with this physiological disorder. Maximum damage (75%) was noticed in the lower part of the fruit while 25.0 and 10.5% of middle and upper portions were affected, respectively. In affected fruits compared to the healthy ones, higher acidity and starch, low pH, total soluble solids and ?-amylase activity were recorded.
