Abstract : Species of nematodes in soil and root samples collected from fields in 4 provinces in Cuba were studied. Samples were obtained from fields planted with pineapple, pawpaw, guava, avocado, mango and grape during the pre-sowing period. Plant parasitic nematodes at various densities were detected in all soil and root samples. The most frequently isolated nematodes belonged to Meloidogyne (100%), Rotylenchulus (72%), Helicotylenchus (33%) and Pratylenchus (22%). Soil samples from fields planted with guava showed the highest nematode population densities.
