Abstract : The major problems of agriculture in Laos are summarised. The results are presented of a survey in 1973-76 (and an earlier preliminary investigation) of the insect pests of crops other than rice there, and these are compared with data from Thailand and other neighbouring countries. A list is also given of parasites of insect pests on economic and ornamental plants. Those pests that are considered to be of economic importance are indicated, and the results of the surveys are discussed under the headings of cucurbit crops, euphorbiaceous crops, graminaceous crops, leguminous crops, solanaceous crops, cotton, kapok, citrus, mango, longan [Nephelium longana], coconut, other fruit crops and ornamental plants.
