Study on the effect of membrane coated with chitosan liquid on the storage ability of Tainong 1 mango cultivar.

Abstract : Experiment was carried out with 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% concentration solution of chitosan liquid with pH of 5.4 and soaked the physiological maturity mango fruit in the solution for 1 min, air-dried then put in the carton stored at temperature of 20-25°C and relative humidity of 60-90%. The effects of such treatment on ethylene release, respiration, soluble solids content, fruit colour, flesh firmness and flavour were examined regularly. Results showed chitosan membrane could retarded the release of ethylene, delayed its peak coming, depressed the weight lose and prolonged the storage life. The best treated concentration of chitosan liquid was 1.5%, which could prolonged the storage for 6 days, made the storage lasted for 21 days.
