Abstract : Polyembryonic mango genotypes (cultivars) Bappakai, Chandrakaran, EC95-862, Goa, Kurukkan, Nakkare, Olour, Peach, Sabre, Starch and 13/1 were grown under greenhouse in pots containing soil mixtures of varying ESP, namely, 9.10 (control), 15, 25 and 35 in the present investigation. Increasing sodicity levels increased sodium content in all the polyembryonic cultivars but tolerant cultivars upto 35 ESP, namely 13/1, Sabre, Olour and Nakkare absorbed less sodium in their roots and contained lower level of sodium in their stem and leaf than sodium sensitive cultivars Chandrakaran, EC 95-862, Goa, Starch and Peach. Increasing level of sodicity, in general, decreased nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and chloride contents in leaf, stem and roots of all the cultivars but decreases were more pronounced in sodium sensitive cultivars Chandrakaran, EC95-862, Goa, Peach and Starch than those tolerant to higher level of sodicity, namely, 13/1, Sabre, Olour, Bappakai, Nakkare, Kurukkan due to higher levels of nutrients in their leaf, stem and root. Higher level of nutrients in leaf, stem and root of 13/1, Sabre, Olour, Bappakai, Nakkare, and Kurukkan also increased chlorophyll and total free amino acids in leaves of these cultivars and helped to increase high sodium tolerant in them. Lower sodium content in root, stem and leaf in 13/1, Sabre, Olour, Bappakai, Nakkare than Chandrakaran, EC95-862, Goa, Peach and Starch and their low levels in root, stem and leaf suggest exclusion of sodium from soil during absorption and restricted translocation of sodium in tolerant mango cultivars. Therefore, mango cultivars, 13/1, Sabre and Olour can be used as rootstocks for mango cultivation in soils upto 35 ESP, whereas Bappakai, Nakkare and Kurukkan can be used for rootstock in soils upto 25 ESP. However, all polyembryonic mango genotypes can be used as rootstock in a slightly sodic soil of 15 ESP.
