Abstract : A field experiment was conducted in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, India, to assess the impact of drought on mango growers and associated factors. The respondents consisted of 120 farmers from 10 villages. The majority of the respondents stated that mango yield was significantly reduced by drought. More than 75% of the respondents indicated that the migration of labourers was not significantly affected by drought. The respondents were the most knowledgeable about pitcher irrigation, followed by summer ploughing with chisel plough, cultar application and drip irrigation, intercropping with pulses, contour bunding with vetiver [Vetiveria zizanioides], and establishment of wind breaks. The majority of the respondents belonged to the medium-level adoption category, whereas the others were classified under the low- (1/3 of the total number of respondents) and high-level adoption categories.
