Abstract : An experiment was conducted to study the mango (cv. Palmer) behaviour upon treatment with 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) under different refrigerated storage periods and 4-day exposure to room temperature environment to evaluate their conservation performance. Palmer mangoes were treated with 1-MCP at 0, 100 and 150 nl litre-1 concentrations, for 12 h, at room temperature. After 4 days at room temperature, fruits were subjected to the following evaluations: firmness, total and soluble pectin, pectic solubilization, pectin methylesterase [pectinesterase] activity, polygalacturonase and â-D-galactosidase. The 1-MCP positively affected the quality, and treatment with 1-MCP at 150 nl litre-1 contributed to a reduction in fruit softening until the 18th day of storage.
