Abstract : A study was undertaken in 2004 to assess the residues of commonly used pesticides, i.e. cypermethrin, methamidophos, monocrotophos, cyfluthrin, dieldrin and methyl parathion [parathion-methyl], in fruits of 3 cultivars (Dusehri, Chaunsa and Sindhri) of mango, collected from the local markets in Peshawar, Pakistan. The samples were treated with organic solvent cyclohexane and ethyl acetate (1:1), cleaned on gel permeation chromatograph and analysed on auto system gas chromatograph with electron capture detector. All the samples were found to be contaminated with a degree of variation of pesticide residues. However, all the samples were within permissible limits set by FAO/WHO with reference to public health.
