Effect of zinc sulphate on growth and yield of mango varieties and hybrids.

Abstract : A field experiment was conducted in Balajiggapade, Kolar district, Karnataka, India, to study the effects of ZnSO4 on the performance of 7 mango cultivars (Mallika, Ratna, Sindhu, Aishwarya, Alphonso, Ratnagiri Alphonso, Ratnagiri Alphonso and Baneshan). The soil application of ZnSO4 at 1.0 kg per tree in the 2nd week of September and foliar application of ZnSO4 at 0.6% during the 2nd week of October followed by a 2nd foliar spray at 50 days after fruit set (T5) resulted in superior growth. Sindhu exhibited superior growth and number of fruits per tree. Aishwarya and T5 treatment recorded the highest number of leaves (14.94) per new shoot. Mallika recorded the highest fresh weight of fruits per tree (25.6 kg) and number of fruits per tree. T5 recorded the highest average fresh weight of fruits (290.30 g) and total fresh weight of fruits (15.22 kg per tree).
