Abstract : An experiment was conducted in an outdoor nursery during 2000-04 in Ranchi, Bihar, India, to study the response of mango cultivars Amrapalli, Mallika, Dashehari, Malda, Zardalu, Langra, Tommy Atkins and Bombay Green to top-veneer grafting. Pooled data during 2000 and 2001 indicated that Tommy Atkins accounted for maximum success of 93.34%. The maximum number of sprouting days was observed in Malda (15.83 days). Sprout length was maximum in Tommy Atkins (30.60 cm) during a 90-day growth period. The maximum leaf number and sprout number was observed in Tommy Atkins (26.95) and Amrapalli (2.36), respectively. Approximately 100% of the Amrapalli plant survived. The maximum E-W and N-S spread was observed in Langra. All the cultivars grew equally with respect to their height and girth. Flowering started from the third year after transplanting. All the cultivars were in bloom in the fourth year. Mallika exhibited maximum flowering (83.84%).
