Abstract : The present paper incorporates for the first time a qualitative and quantitative analyses of 15 Apis cerana indica honey samples collected from West district of Tripura, India, during 2004-05. Out of these, 7 samples were found to be unifloral, 2 were bifloral and 6 were multifloral. In the unifloral honey samples, Litsea glutinosa, Litchi chinensis, Brassica sp., Mangifera indica, Ziziphus jujuba, Elaeocarpus floribundus and Diospyros montana were the predominant pollen. Physicochemical analyses were also carried on these samples. The pH, total sugar, total protein and phenol were estimated. This type of physicochemical analysis and pollen analysis of the honey samples favour the possibility of utilizing the rich flora of the state for the development of apiary industry for good quality honey in the region.
