Abstract : Imported mangoes are currently air-lifted to Japan. Experiments were carried out on long term ripening and storage for possible ship transportation of mangoes. The respiration rate of the fruit was lowered at 10-13 deg C as was infection with anthracnose; weight losses and hence shrivelling were much reduced at lower temperatures compared with a room temperature of 26-28 deg C.
