Abstract : This publication brings together the technical and scientific presentations made to the II Meeting of Young Talents of Embrapa Cerrados, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of this Embrapa centre. The presentations are divided into 2 main sections: 7 from postgraduates, and 18 from graduates. They cover various aspects of cerrado characteristics and use: plants (genetic variation, markers; genotype classification); soil and rock chemistry; the morphological analysis of root systems; mapping plant height in cotton; the impact of grazing on soil hydraulic conductivity; the impact of 'corós' (beetle (coleopteran) larvae of the family Melolonthidae) on soyabeans planted in cerrado; seed weight as an indicator of productivity; comparative forage production by cultivars of Brachiaria brizantha, methods for the classification of Leucaena genotypes with regard to aluminium tolerance; fungal and bacterial contamination and necrosis, and the reduction of phenolic oxidation in nodal segments of Mangifera indica in vitro; the use of fuzzy logic with productivity data to delineate management zones; the production of IAA and growth promotion in maize by strains of Herbaspirillum seropedicae and Azospirillum amazonense; diagnosis of the nutritional status of soyabeans using georeferenced data; the processing of georeferenced data and correlations between soil, plants and productivity; fungi associated with seeds of mangaba (Hancornia speciosa, a fruit and timber species) from provenances from Distrito Federal and Goiás; the fertility of soil infested by Brachiaria and planting patterns in the cultivation of soyabeans; moisture availability in native cerrado and areas cultivated with Brachiaria pasture; and economic controversies and uncertainty.
